About Us

Nanette Goin

Just Delicious Diabetic Delights Bakery was originally started in January 2008 by a couple of feisty grandmothers with years of baking experience, but it did not prepare us for the “baking without sugar” woes. We soon found out why there were only 8 known all sugar-free bakeries in the U.S. We found cakes wouldn’t rise or they were either dry or as dense as a hockey puck.  We found in our very extensive research that safe natural sweeteners are expensive. What a nightmare.  As of 2012 there are only 2 known All Sugar Free bakeries.

Well, we decided to march on, spend our kid’s inheritance, and opened our first location January 21, 2008 in the Greenhouse Square in Clackamas, Oregon and become the 8th All Sugar Free Bakery in the U.S. Until our sign went up we used to say “we’re right next to the liquor store.” That always seemed to work. Some people admitted to being charter members.

Thanks to an exploding customer base, by the end of two years we had outgrown the 1,475 sq ft. We had 5 doors of refrigeration in the front customer area. For 10 months it was very cozy. Our customers just stood a little closer together, but on November 10, 2010 we moved 8 doors north to 16100 SE 82nd Drive into 4,000 sq. ft. Wow, talk about rock and roll time. We found we all needed roller skates to cover the new space. Having been closed for 7 days for the move, customers were standing outside our doors waiting for us to open. With the new walk-in cooler and freezer, and a huge Baxter oven, we are better equipped to take on the hospitals and other commercial accounts that have been patiently waiting for this move, plus the continued demands (bless their hearts) of the walk-in clientele at our bakery. The new shipping department is wonderful to handle all the mail order request. We ship all over the United States including locally.

In 2009 Nanette contacted BakeMark and asked them if they could remove the maltitol sweetener from their cake base product. It was causing distress to many of our customers who have a sensitivity to this corn base sweetener. BakeMark took the suggestions of Just Delicious Diabetic Bakery seriously and completely reformulated two major products for the benefit of the diabetic community and they did this in 9 months. This is a major accomplishment on the part of BakeMark.

Just Delicious Bakery has been featured twice on KGW Channel 8 morning news in the “Out and About with Drew Carney” portion of the show. We experienced a HUGE public response to these airings. We didn’t realize how many people are up at 5 am and watching TV. On November 8, 2011 we were featured on Fox 12 on the Good Day Oregon Live show with Joe on his ON THE GO WITH JOE show.

On March 11, 2011 Just Delicious Diabetic Bakery was one of three invited guests to speak at the Healthy Baking Seminar in Anaheim, CA. This huge event is sponsored by BakeMark and hosted by Modern Baking Magazine and Baking Management.

On February 10, 2011, Just Delicious Diabetic Bakery and Nanette did a live feature on KOIN Channel 6 on the “Studio 6” program featuring one of their recipes.

We were unaware that we had been nominated and chosen one of the top 10 “Secret Sweet Spots” by Oregon Mt. Hood Territory for 2011. A video of our bakery is available at www.MtHoodTerritory.com in the video section We were very excited to receive this award and have it displayed on the front door of the bakery.

We have been written up in Modern Baking Magazine twice in 2011; we are in the August 2, 2011 issue of Baking Management, and are featured on the Wax Orchards web page.

We have been in the Costco Connection magazine twice in 2010. Our favorite is Clint Eastwood on the cover and we are on the back cover. You can open up and see us both.

Just Delicious Bakery is dedicated to a healthy alternative for diabetics and calorie-counters, and we have developed a huge menu of pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty items all packed with flavor and lower carbs. And YES! IT’S ALL SUGAR-FREE with no after taste. The only sugar is in the fruit we use. We can’t subtract what Mother Nature gave, but we do list the natural sugars on the nutritional sheet. We don’t use any Nutri-sweet, Aspartame, corn products, molasses, honey, or Saccharine. We offer printed menus, nutritional facts, and facts about the sweeteners we use.

If 5 Portland area hospitals, 4 Kroger/Fred Meyer stores, diabetics, calorie counters, special dietary need individuals, and just those fabulous people who are sincerely choosing a better way of eating approve of us, come see for yourself what you’re missing. It’s worth the time, the phone call and/or drive. Besides, we would enjoy making your acquaintance.

On September 28, 2011 Nanette’s partner retired and Bill and Nanette Goin became the sole owners of the bakery. Their family (oh yes, we believe in nepotism) and great staff members are looking forward to seeing you. We want to personally thank everyone who has come through our doors, or has a relationship with us through phone calls and mailings. We so appreciate you and your continued business. Many of you have become like family and we always enjoy hearing from you or see you walk through our doors. Customers have told us that coming into Just Delicious Bakery is much like going into Cheers Bar (remember that great show?) Everyone knows your name, and if they don’t, they soon will.

THERE’S MORE ..…………………………..

We have also added more Gluten-Free items to the menu.  Besides the cheesecakes that have always been gluten-free, we have added bread, hamburger & hot dog buns, chicken tenders, pizza crust in it’s own pan, pear upside down cake (NOT SUGAR-FREE,) and pasta.  Check out the pictures.
