Just Delicious Diabetic Delights Bakery is the brain child of Donna Nelson of Gladstone, OR. On August 22 2007, Donna decided to come out of a three year retirement. Having spent over 35 years in the medical field, she decided to look for something different. Donna asked long time friend, Nanette Goin, if she would like to partner up and open a diabetic bakery in the area. Both Donna and Nanette have diabetic husbands so when they grocery shop or go out to dinner they are well acquainted with "we have nothing sugar-free" or "sorry, not much".
Being a couple of feisty grandmothers with years of baking experience did not prepare them for the "baking without sugar" woes. They then understood why there are only 7 known sugar-free bakeries in the U.S. Cakes wouldn’t rise; they were either dry or as dense as a hockey puck. What a nightmare. In October they spent part of their kids’ inheritance and went to Las Vegas to study with another diabetic bakery for three days.
Well now, armed with the right stuff, the bakery was built. It opened January 21 2008 in the Greenhouse Square at 16140 SE 82nd Drive, Clackamas, OR and became the 8th Sugar Free bakery in the U.S. Until their sign went up they used to say "we’re right next to the liquor store." That seemed to work.
Dedicated to a healthy alternative for diabetics and calorie-counters, Donna and Nanette have developed a huge menu of pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty items all packed with flavor and lower carbs. And YES! IT’S ALL SUGAR-FREE with no after taste. They don’t use any Nutri-sweet, Aspartame, corn products, molasses, honey, or Saccharine. They offer printed menus, nutritional facts, and facts about the sweetener they use. They also have been testing the Steviva brand with some well received results!

~ The Customer Service one receives from the owners Donna and Nannette of Just Delicious Bakery in Portland Oregon is absolutely unheard of in these days of rush, rush, rush. From the very first mail order I placed, I was,quite frankly, concerned that the bakery might arrive in pieces. But both Donna and Nanette were so attentive to making sure that this never happened. I must say, they have treated me like a member of the family. They checked several times by calling me and speaking with me personally to ask my preferences about ‘this way’ or ‘that way’. I paid the absolute least amount of freight/postage owing to their special attention.. They packed and repacked my order to make sure everything would fit into only 2 priority boxes. Each time I received my orders on time as promised, and both the muffins and cookies are as fresh and undamaged, as if they had been taken right out of their own ovens an hour before.
I have told my friends about their low cost offer to assist others to start up a similar bakery in other parts of the country because these wonderful women entrepreneurs have done so well in such a short amount of time. The break-even point for capital invested is no more than a year or two. And there is such a growing need for safe delicious sugar-free delights nationwide as the baby boomers reach retirement. My wife is a long time member and former lecturer for Weight Watchers International.
